A year after conquering the pop music world and making their screen debut in A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, The Beatles reunited with director Richard Lester for this loose musical chase comedy, ostensibly about an evil cult which is after a sacred ring owned by Ringo Starr. When it screened in American theaters alongside tired comedies with Bob Hope or Jerry Lewis, HELP!'s ironic cool, youthful energy and absurdist comedy seemed as startling and fresh as the music revolution the foursome had ushered in a few months earlier.
