Go to the gay pride parade. Get the equality sticker and put it in your cubicle. Be up to date with equal rights laws. It's the little things that matter to your friends. So, just like you feel touched when your best friend remembers the name of your college boyfriend or your favorite flower, he'll feel touched when you make it known you know what LGBTQIA stands for...or the name of the ONE Ben Affleck movie he can actually stand.

Nothing sounds more tacky when you say "oh my BEST FRIEND IS GAY" in the middle of a conversation where that isn't necessary. It's the equivalent of saying something like "oh I go golfing with Jewish people so I can make a Holocaust joke." You don't get to say the 'f' bomb because you are best friends with a gay guy.
