9. VOTE AGAINST: Wearing red, white and blue all in one outfit

Last year I became an American citizen and it was one of the best days of my life, but while I am a newly minted patriot, I still think wearing our country’s colors all in one outfit gets a no-vote from me. In that case, it stops being patriotic and starts being camp. Unless of course you’re Pam Anderson and it’s on a Baywatch bathing suit. But then, that’s a salute of a whole different kind.

8. VOTE FOR: Political T-shirts

I think it’s time to wear our hearts on our chests again. Katherine Hamnett, back in the Eighties, did these amazing political slogan oversized t’s that were all the rage and in some ways, after Occupy Wall Street, it’s time to bring that fashion voice back. Eighties has been a big trend on the runway so maybe it’s also time for some Eighties logo love. Just don’t adopt the Eighties political philosophy back in office.

7. VOTE AGAINST: Pearls

I completely understand the idea of wanting to project a level of conservatism in office but ladies, I think it’s time to ditch those pearls. If there was a sense of irony, I would love it but in the political arena, it's feeling way TOO safe and staid. Let’s try for gold or silver or gold and silver. Time to shake things up.

6. VOTE FOR: Movie Star Looks

Sure I’m all about brains and intellect and power but a little eye candy in office can’t hurt, so I'm going to vote for movie star looks. But I'm thinking less Arnold and Ronald and more Prince Charming. Maybe Armie Hammer for President?

5. VOTE AGAINST: Boxy Suits

I’m going to take a bet here and say there’s no political dictate that says women politicians can’t have a waist, so what’s up with all the shapeless suits. What’s wrong with a little femininity in office? Belt, meet Senator. Senator, meet belt.

4. VOTE FOR: Pillbox hats and gloves

It’s time to bring back the big guns. This classic ensemble should be the staple uniform addressed in The White House Handbook (if that existed of course). After all, it worked for Jackie. Enough said.

3. VOTE AGAINST: Bad hair

It’s time to ease off of that AquaNet. You’re running the country (or your county) and not delivering the evening news.

2. VOTE FOR: A structured bag

I say take some pointers from the Queen of England. If she can tote that empty structured bag everywhere with her and still command all that authority, then why not bring it stateside. Why should all those fashionable wives with their Hermes Birkins be the only ones allowed to throw commands to their husbands? Shouldn’t we have some of that same chutzpah in office?

1. VOTE AGAINST: Sarah Palin’s glasses

It’s time that even she loses them so she can finally see better.
