The OG of badass best friends, Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis kicked plenty of butt as two females who refused to let men take advantage of them. So quite simply? They didn’t.

They weren’t afraid of a little firepower to get what they wanted, but that’s not what makes them the coolest. A pretty good friend is somebody who is willing to flee the scene of a murder, and then allow a dude to crash Girls Weekend because a friend found him hot. That’s what REAL friendship is about.

9. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Not a day goes by where I don’t think of how awesome it would be to hang with the two of these ladies. They’re the most talented comedians on television today, and the fact that they have been buddies forever proves something we’ve all suspected for a very long time: you and your best friend are the funniest people you know. You guys should like, write a movie together or something!

8. Beyonce and Gaga

In the Telephone video, Beyonce doesn’t ask Lady Gaga any questions. Some questions she could have asked, however, might be: “Lady Gaga, why are you wearing a leather jacket in jail?” “Gaga, why are you killing literally EVERYBODY in this diner?” “Lady Gaga, why are you making me an accomplice to a whole bunch of murders?”

No. Beyonce did not ask those questions because she’s a good friend. And when your friend needs to kill a whole bunch of people to get revenge, then all you do is you put on some red lipstick, get into the car and drive her to another location.

You’re supportive! She let you lean on her shoulder when you got dumped, it’s the least you could do, B!

7. Janis Ian (Lizzy Caplan) and Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan)

MEAN GIRLS taught us that a lot of girls in high school are somewhat related to the devil. However, what that film also taught us is that when said high school girls are exhibiting their demonic qualities, there will always be someone out there who will be willing to help you plan their demise.

They’ll buy the foot cream to switch her face wash with. They’ll understand why they all need to go down, except not by actually killing them like in HEATHERS. They’ll also be there to tell you when you, in fact, are becoming the devil yourself.

The monster inside! Janis Ian (Lizzy Caplan) and Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) were the kind of friends that took revenge seriously, and we all know that friends who revenge together, stay together.

6. Patsy and Edina

If you haven’t watched the British sitcom ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS,, you should get on it right away. Basically, it’s about two successful career ladies who are friends!

Women with powerful professions can be friends too, and I find that so inspiring! Except these ladies spend their paychecks on chasing their youth, recreational drugs, and lots and lots of alcohol. I find this more inspiring, and also I can relate.

5. Cher and Dionne

A classic duo from CLUELESS; a classic movie. When I was in high school, I wanted to be Dionne so badly. She had a nose ring. She had cool braids. She had lots of hats. And, I also wanted a best friend like Cher -- not because she was a virgin-who-can’t-drive, but because when the two of them were together, they did something that every high school girl wanted to do: give other people makeovers.

The two of them were a MAKEOVER TEAM. Could you imagine how awesome it would be to experience a real life makeover montage in your lifetime? With a best friend, perhaps one day you can.

I don’t care how you feel about either of these women. All you need to know at this exact moment is this -- Jennifer Aniston has been nothing but tight-lipped and polite about the end of her marriage with Brad Pitt. However, we all know that Angelina Jolie, the sexiest lizard on the face of the Earth, had something to do with it. Maybe she voo-dooed him. Maybe she stared at him until he got a divorce. She probably slept with him while he was married. We’ll never know.

What I do know? Chelsea Handler, a notorious good friend of Aniston’s, goes on stage at a stand-up show and called Angelina Jolie the c-word.

And then I picture Jennifer’s smirk. “A good friend,” we all think. A good friend, indeed.

3. Old School Paris and Nicole

These ladies were a perfect example of how all of us act with our best friends: like bitchy, gossipy idiots. It makes us feel better, like perhaps since they put this kind of crap on television, it’s not so awful that we have girl’s night just to talk smack about other people and get so drunk we can barely move off the couch.

Thank goodness! We’re not that weird, we’re just imitating terrible.

2. Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek

Fact: If people suspect you and your best friend of being lesbians, you’re doing something right. You’re not true best friends until people think that you are sleeping together because you go to parties and lay on your friends lap and can finish her sentences and play with her hair.

The thing is, best friends are like the best boyfriend you’ll ever have, because it’s better. You talk for hours and hours about your feelings. You can say you have your period. You can take off your pants without the sexual connotations! It’s really a great deal.

1. The ladies of Sex and the City

I mean, we STILL talk about this show. Girls who were 7 years old when the show aired refer to themselves as “Carries” or lord help us, “Samantha’s.” This show will be around in reruns FOREVER.

This is because they are the best example of best friends, and teach us the most important friendship lesson of all: your best friends are your soulmates.
