Ah, lovely, fragile February. While the groundhogs can't seem to <a href="http://www.montrealgazette.com/travel/Groundhog+Quebec+groundhog+disagrees+Shubenacadie+Wiarton+Willie/6090473/story.html" target=blank">make up their minds on just how much winter we've got left, those of us on the East Coast are still waiting for that alleged season to start. But, regardless of what the mercury tells us, it's still hibernating season (and, well, fighting off the flu season), so we've got some killer indie movies lined up to get you through the next week:

Robert Redford didn't just create the Sundance Film Festival, he also started Sundance Channel (thanks for that, btw). So when he stopped by to catch up (and make sure we were all doing our jobs correctly) he opened up about the challenges starting a channel pose for someone so rooted in the indie world. It all worked out and now Sundance Channel is expanding the audience for the types of films Sundance was started to foster. It's always nice to hear the boss say you are on the right track. Check out all of what Redford has to say on representing the 'independent spirit' over on our video page, or right here:

Docu-Series Explores The Lives Of Four Women As They Tackle Everyday Challenges, All While Living With Paralysis

Push Girl \’pu̇sh ’gər(-ə)l\ noun, definition:
a)	A fierce, fearless female who is not helpless, hapless or hopeless.
b)	A powerful woman who might be confined by a wheelchair but does not let her paralysis confine or define her life.
c)	A person who sheds their handicap and faces life head on.

In the same way "Murderball," winner of the 2005 Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival, took the lid off the competitive world of “wheelchair rugby,” Sundance Channel is bringing an unfettered, uncensored glimpse at what it means to be sexy, ambitious and living with paralysis in Hollywood with PUSH GIRLS, a new original non-fiction series from producer Gay Rosenthal ("Ruby," "Little People, Big World").

Being a gay dad in Nashville looks hard. We're guessing Peter is the only gay parent in his daughter's class. Hopefully we're only seeing the most dramatic tidbit of this conversation here, because we want to see hugs in a situation like this. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Just admit it. You don't really want to go out on New Year's Eve. It's amateur hour! Someone will probably puke on you and you won't be able to get a cab. And if you don't live someplace with cabs there is a good chance 90% of people on the road will be drunk. Do yourself a favor and stay in. We've all got problems, especially around this time of year. This week on Sundance is adults only: intense films about violence, sex, and parties, almost all praised for stunning visuals. And on Christmas Eve, Santa is bringing MARIE ANTOINETTE, with all of the ribbons, candy, and costumes you would expect for such a festive occasion.

There are a few situations when it is OK to lie on a first date. If your date asks an inappropriate question, for example, it's ok to fib instead of dodge. And if you met online, but your paramour looks and acts like a completely different person in the flesh, it's ok to smile and nod before you run away, never to be seen or heard from again. This week's deleted scene, however, has got to mark the first time we've ever heard anybody lie about not being able to swim.

We get it. You came here hoping for an extra bit of Jared's sex tape. You'll have to go digging around on the Internet to find that yourself (and then post a link for us, obviously). We're not doing that because we want to end up on Santa's nice list. And we're not the only ones getting ready for the holidays. Sherrié and Shane have a little Christmas single they've been working on.

So, what do you think of Shane's Jesus t-shirts? Well, we're never going to turn down something sparkly, but perhaps they were a bit...much? Sherrié certainly seemed to think so. What do you get when you mix two frustrated, country music singer-songwriters, a Broadway show and a little bit of love for the Lord? The Nashville stylings of Sherrié and Shane! These two thought they'd reached the end of the line on their singing careers when fate intervened to bring them together and show them the way back to Tennessee--where they're set for a season of making beautiful music together. Don't believe us? Both have projects coming out this month, so you can listen for yourselves.

Sundance Channel announced today it has signed with BBC Worldwide to co-produce Jane Campion’s TOP OF THE LAKE, an original scripted project. The seven part mini-series will be directed by Oscar® winner Jane Campion (The Piano, Portrait of a Lady) and Australian director Garth Davis, and written by Jane Campion and Gerard Lee (Sweetie). The project stars SAG® winner and three time Emmy® nominated actress Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, On the Road). Holly Hunter, who won a Best Actress Oscar® for her performance in Campion’s The Piano, also stars alongside BAFTA® nominee Peter Mullan (War Horse, Trainspotting) and AFI Award winning actor David Wenham (The Lord of the Rings, Australia).

The announcement comes on the heels of two Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award for Sundance Channel’s first scripted drama CARLOS, as well as the recently announced scripted dramas RECTIFY and APPROPRIATE ADULT. Produced by Academy Award® winners Emile Sherman and Iain Canning (The King’s Speech, Shame) of See-Saw Films, and Philippa Campbell (Black Sheep) of Escapade Pictures, TOP OF THE LAKE is a powerful and haunting mystery about the search for happiness in a paradise where honest work is hard to find. Set in the remote mountains of New Zealand, the story follows the disappearance of a five months pregnant 12-year-old named Tui who was last seen standing chest deep in a frozen lake. In this classic mythic struggle, investigating detective, Robin Griffin (Moss), must lose herself in order to find the missing girl. During the investigation, she collides with Matt Mitcham (Mullan), Tui’s father, a local drug lord, and G.J (Hunter), a guru at a local women’s camp. Robin will find this the case that tests her limits and sends her on a journey of self-discovery.

What do you get when you combine a certified southern belle and one of Nashville's most out-there event planners? The dynamic duo of Olivia and Brent, obviously! And you can be sure that wherever these two Southern socialites show up the GIRLS WHO LIKE BOYS WHO LIKE BOYS drama is sure to follow (are those sirens we hear?).

FROM THE PRODUCERS OF AWARD-WINNING BREAKING BAD, THIS PROJECT IS SUNDANCE CHANNEL’S FIRST WHOLLY-OWNED PRODUCTION

PREMIERES SIMULTANEOUSLY ON SUNDANCE CHANNEL GLOBAL

Further solidifying Sundance Channel’s commitment to high quality scripted programming, the channel today greenlit original scripted series RECTIFY with a six episode order. The hour-long legal drama was created and written by Academy Award winner Ray McKinnon (The Accountant) who also serves as executive producer on the project. The series represents the first wholly owned Sundance Channel scripted production. In addition, it will be the first project to premiere simultaneously on Sundance Channel in the United States and on Sundance Channel Global in countries throughout Europe, Asia and North America.

Veteran producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein of production company Gran Via will also serve as executive producers. This marks the second project for Johnson and Bernstein with AMC Networks. The first is AMC’s Emmy Award-winning series, Breaking Bad.

Halloween is just around the corner, and if you don't have your costume ready yet let us inspire you with a line up of seriously scary movies. Seriously. I mean it. Like if you really wanted to dress up as some of the characters in these movies you could probably just pour of bucket of fake blood over your head and call it a night. Or, if you're like me and prefer to leave the gore onscreen, there's no better way to drown out the sound of your doorbell ringing and scare away the trick-or-treaters on the other side by tuning into Sundance Channel and turning the volume wayyyy up.

Don't know what to watch first? Allow me to break it down quick and dirty:

POSSESSION OF DAVID O'REILLY: Scary-as-hell supernatural demons in a "shockumentary" that will haunt your dreams.

COFFIN ROCK: Go ahead, sleep with your stalker, psychopathic neighbor. What's the worse that could happen?...

Since its debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010, the five and a half hour long CARLOS has earned rave reviews; "Both the LA and NY film critics named it Best Foreign Language film last December and this January it won the Golden Globe for Best TV Movie/Mini." CARLOS aired last October on Sundance Channel as a three-part series, and it's to its credit that people are still talking - and talking excitedly - about the series, especially about its leading man, the very talented (and very hunky) Edgar Ramirez, who nabbed an Emmy...

Ben Kaufman's company, Quirky, is all about finding great ideas from regular people and turning them into real, marketable products, and Core77 is all about covering the best and latest in design and technology. Throughout the Quirky series, we'll be bringing you stories from designers, inventors and entrepreneurs who've either already brought their product from concept to completion or are right in the middle of that process - and all without the help of a company like Ben's.

Today we bring you the story of the Pure Water bottle, winner of the Core77 Design Award for Social Impact. Designed by Timothy Whitehead.

If you've taken a look at the schedule for The Green programming this month (and the rest of what's on Sundance Channel this week), this Sunday's showing of WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR? may have caught your attention - and even had you scratching your head a bit. After all, aren't electrified vehicles now alive and well? The Nissan LEAF (a fully electric car) and the Chevy Volt (a plug-in hybrid with a 40 mile all-electric range) are getting lots of attention, and boutique automakers like Tesla are still plugging away (so to speak). Gearheads are converting their own cars to electricity and even offering the service to others. And director Chris Paine's next film is called REVENGE OF THE ELECTRIC CAR. Doesn't all of this prove that this five-year-old documentary is already dated?

Based solely on the fact that Stefan Sagmeister dropped his name in a sentence to this effect: he helps me get ideas - I picked up "Creativity Workout: 62 Exercises to Unlock Your Most Creative Ideas," by Edward "master of creative thinking" De Bono. It's basically a book of exercises to help you generate ideas, whether you're looking for business solutions or a little kick in the pants in a creative project. All the exercises are based on tables of random words that you select randomly, the idea being that in order to think outside the box you need to approach your problem from the outside as well. De Bono posits that totally unrelated words will shed new light and lead to active ways of thinking and creative solutions.

When I read through his introduction and discovered that this was the concept for the entire book, I was pretty let down. It seemed so hokey, like problem solving tricks your fourth grade teacher might use in class. But no matter how much I cringed at De Bono's self help speak, I just kept thinking: Sagmeister. Sagmeister does this stuff, so who was I to turn my nose up at it without even trying it out?

If you don't already know Garo, then you're in for a real treat next Friday night when we premiere our new series UNLEASHED BY GARO. A fashion designer and skilled artisan (think complicated corsetry and lace work), Garo creates outfits for everything from runway to one-of-kind, personal transformation, occasion pieces. And let's not forget his delightfully outlandish costume pieces for drag; Watching Hedda Lettuce's cameo in episode one is the most fun I've had watching TV in a long time.

The first episode of Quirky hasn't even aired yet (that all changes tonight at 9P), and already the Tweeters and bloggers of the Inter-webs have united, and for once it seems like everyone online has only good things to say - about Quirky, at least. Though really, I'm not surprised. I've already seen the first two episodes (yeah, I gotta hook-up) and not only is it about one of my dearest loves - design - but it's one of those shows that you aren't going to mess around on during the commercial break lest you miss any of the excitement Ben Kaufman and his team of pros is cooking up at the Quirky lab. Seriously, in the first five minutes we see someone send in an idea they had for a product they probably thought up while they were just hanging out on their couch at home and Bam! It gets selected by the Quirky kids and at the end of the episode it's a real, live and extremely good-looking product you can actually go into a store and buy. And yeah, I'm willing to risk sound like a dork here, but that's pretty cool, right? The Associated Press thought so, too. Check it:

Watch LUDO BITES AMERICA Tuesdays at 9P

More masterful cooking from our guest blogger Justin, who, along with his wife, Lori, writes the food blog The Gastronomic Duo, a blog dedicated to couples cooking together in the kitchen and enjoying food with one another in their home.

I’m going to be straightforward here. I think ceviche is best served as the rustic and simple dish that it historically is: a poor man’s meal conceived as a way to get rid of fish and reduce waste on its last palatable day via light pickling. I’m also going to say that when done right, it’s a total delight. That’s why this SUNfiltered post is so exciting to me. When I read the recipe, I wanted to transport myself immediately to my Minneapolis kitchen and try it. I thought, “Wow, this is ceviche taken to the next level.” Milk granita, cucumber water and blackberries. I was delighted to give this recipe a shot. Maybe it would change my viewpoint on ceviche forever.
