Getting insulted by authors
Two first-namer Bill Ryan has a novel (pun!) hobby that takes him to book signings where he asks authors to commemorate his copy with their signature and an insult, which he then shares on his blog. Amy Sedaris’ insult is rather NSFW, but SUNfiltered readers are a mature and appreciative crowd!

Absolutely Cuckoo Cats from SINLOGO on Vimeo. Yes, I know stupid cat videos and pictures have haunted the Internet for, like, um, ever. But this video just has me giggling like a big ole’ sissy. Set to The Magnetic Fields’”Absolutely Cuckoo,” the film shows three silly synchronized felines bobbing their heads to the music. I [...]

Every so often a blog surfaces from the mire that is the blogosphere, a blog brilliant in its clarity of voice and its efficacy at conveying the one simple pleasure it was created to purvey. I’m talking about the seemingly effortless genius that is Black and WTF? Created in 2009, Black and WTF? is chock-full of weird and wonderful gems from the eras of black and white photography. After much ado and delay, my website is finally ready to launch. Don’t worry, this post is not about me, but about an important decision I had to make during the web deign process, a dilemma most of us have faced at some point. I’m talking about font choice. The struggle to choose the perfect font almost feels like taking a personality quiz. Am I a serif or a sans sort of person? Am I simple, minimal, unadorned, light, heavy or possibly italic? The stress of discerning the subtleties between Garamond and Goudy or Baskerville and Bookman is not totally unlike that famous scene of the business card-obsessives in AMERICAN PSYCHO. But instead of sweating the competition around the board room Christian Bale-style, I sat alone in front of my computer screen, scrolling through my options. Futura is played out. Frutiger is awfully nice but it’s just not right for me. After hours I finally decided upon a venerable favorite, one I seldom get the opportunity to use on a regular basis, the streamlined yet friendly, direct yet inviting Gill Sans.

Etsy is the best-y. If not for finding stellar handmade goods and art, then at least for a reliable good laugh. In fact, we probably spend more time on Regretsy, the fail blog of Etsy that highlights all the handmade horrors and craft disasters that people with no shame or taste are trying to pawn [...]
