Make your film for free at MoCA

Levi’s Film Workshop from Levi's Film Workshop on Vimeo.

As far as brand sponsorship of art-related events goes, some collaborations fare better than others (see Lizzie Widdicomb’s scathing New Yorker review of the brand-forward Van Cleef & Arpels exhibition at the Cooper-Hewitt), but I have to hand it to Levi’s for hosting a legit, non-advertisey addition to MoCA’s “Art in the Street‘” exhibition.

Even if you’ve grown weary of street art and graffiti culture (and it’s totally understandable if you have), Levi’s gets major cred for its Film Workshop, housed inside MoCA’s Geffen Contemporary until the exhibition ends in August. The workshop rents out professional equipment and makes other resources like sets, editing suites and on-site training available to the public, completely free of charge.

Equipment rentals range from vintage cameras to the much-coveted Red One, as well as RĂ˜DE sound gear, Quixote lights and tripods from Manfrotto. There’s even a screening room where you can present your finished film. So for all those budding filmmakers out there, no more excuses! Everything you need is literally at your fingertips.
