New wedding mag for same-sex couples

“Equally Wed” is the new online magazine for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender couples who are tying the knot (legally or not). Launched this past March with their Spring Issue, they plan to publish one issue each season (their Summer Issue is up now). It’s got the typical bridal magazine stuff that just feeds the Nuptial Industrial Complex — like fashion, beauty, and fitness items with tips from experts, trends, and products. (Yawn.) What makes it essential is their coverage of the uncharted territories where gay marriage finds itself today: where are the gay-friendly honeymoon spots and who are local gay-friendly vendors; how do you talk to the family about your engagement; what social etiquette is unique to same-sex events; where is gay marriage legal now and where will it be legal in the near future; how do your current state laws affect you and your relationship, etc? Plus, they’ve got profiles and photo galleries of real couples’ weddings, which we can’t believe wouldn’t warm the hearts of even the most staunch Evangelicals. Check out the editor-in-chief’s mission statement here.
