Denon’s 100th birthday

If you don’t know Denon you’re probably not serious about music. Denon lovers are not just fans, they’re fanatics, and during the brand’s 100th Anniversary year they have something more to get excited about than just a birthday. To celebrate their centennial, Denon has released an Anniversary Product Collection of 7 special-edition designs that hearken back to the good ol’ days of the dawn of audio technology.

Denon got its start in 1910 with a gramophone and single-sided records. Since then, they’ve been at the forefront of nearly every new development in the world of sound. Most of us remember cassette tapes as a hallmark of the 70s and 80s with CD players fast on their tail. But Denon started selling cassettes as early as 1964, and released their first CD player in 1982.

While the Anniversary Collection doesn’t include old tape decks and 8-track players, it does feature the DP-A100 turntable, which retains the same design features it had when it was released in 1971 and is “capable of masterfully reproducing the energy and beauty of analog discs” and the DP-A100 boasts a dampening silicon rubber treatment on the underside of the diecast aluminum platter to prevent the motor from transmitting vibrations to the record.

Aside from the turntable and the retro headphones, the other products are slightly less sexy, but audio enthusiasts and recording professionals will get amped over gadgets like the DL-A100 cartridge, remade like it was in 1961. See the rest of the product line-up on Denon’s Anniversary page.
