Before the Arts Gallery at the University of London is destroyed by the Crossrail, they’re hosting “The All of Everything” the final and fittingly epic exhibition by artist Mike Ballard. Ballard, a graduate of Central Saint Martins, is a graffiti artist turned fine artist. His work references everything from cave paintings to the Baroque period to pop culture, and his piece for the Arts Gallery – a floor to ceiling collage – runs in the same vein. “It includes Caravaggio’s angels wearing NASA space helmets, X-wing fighters from Star Wars and the afro-futurist musician, Sun Ra.” To send the Arts Gallery off “to the other side of time,” Ballard installed a giant pharaoh’s head on one wall, equipped with kaleidoscopic eye sockets that house video and audio work. In fact, this piece summons up all the gods, from the religious and art world alike, to attend the gallery’s impending destruction.
