Ryan Berkley’s well dressed animals
An annual rite of summer is the media’s breathless coverage of shark attacks at beaches, however the summer of 2009 seems to be lacking in this regard. This may be explained by abnormal weather in some parts keeping beach goers and water enthusiasts away, or the media might be distracted by more pressing things such as the economy, birthers, and anti-universal health care protesters shouting in town halls, but what about the sharks themselves? Where are the sharks that feed the summer shark attack mania? Well, if artist Ryan Berkley’s portraits of “well dressed animals” is any indication, sharks don’t have time to frolic in the warm waters and chase after surfers, because frankly they are too busy putting in the hours at the office. Berkley’s series featuring a wide variety of animals is a wonderful combination of absurd humor with quaint, kitschy aesthetic.

It’s you, perfected!
