People in poor socioeconomic conditions, who are less educated, or who might (though I'm hesitant to suggest it) simply be less smart than others surveyed are probably more likely to have had children at a very young age (e.g. teen pregnancies). Having children when you're old might not make your kids smarter...smarter people might just be waiting longer to have children. And then, of course, genetics/socioeconomic conditions/family situations pass the intelligence on down. In reality, the chance of birth defects and complications in pregnancy goes up once a woman hits 35. The data showing that older mothers have smarter children might be misleading.
