Top Ten Green Refrigerators, Part Three
Welcome to the best green refrigerators of 2008! Within this post you will discover the next two refrigerators on the top ten list.
7) Amana – 25 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator [www.amana.com]
This fridge comes with all the basic features such as ice dispenser, LCD display, adjustable shelving and temperature control. Perhaps the best recommendation for this unit would be the $62 yearly operating cost, which is right near the bottom of most fridges in this size range, which can go up and above $100. There are also water and air filters built into the unit, which is getting to be standard feature in modern fridges; assessing the health impact of these filtration systems could be an interesting experiment.
On their website, Amana by Whirlpool also has a handy link to Freecycle and Craigslist, where you can give away or sell your old fridge to someone else, which if done locally, can really be good for the environment. The link shows that Amana Refrigerators wants to build awareness about good environmental practices that every day people can utilize.
6) Samsung – RM257ACRS [www.samsung.com] – 24.8 Cubic Foot Stainless Steel Finish Side by Side Refrigerator.
This fridge is loaded with features that go a little bit further than most other fridges. A nice touch to the fridge is the inclusion of humidity control in addition to the normal feature of temperature control. In fact you can go all the way up to 72% humidity, while most fridges can only go to 17%.
The LCD looks very high-tech on the fridge and you can find the air and water filters on this unit as well. Perhaps the most interesting design element of the fridge is the fact that the fridge has 4 separate compartments, each with their own main door. In fact each door has its own fan and compressor coils, so you can adjust the temperature, humidity to whatever level you want. This cuts down on some of the operational cost of running the fridge, unless you forget which compartment you left the food in and end up opening them all that is.
