This Week on THE GREEN

IT’S NOT EASY BEING GREEN: EPISODE 3
This week, Dick Strawbridge takes on the mechanical engineering task of setting up the watermill that will provide a steady flow of power to the home. He consults with a nearby mechanical engineer and there is some male bonding between him and his son in the process. Bridgette is working hard in the garden, making sure everything is in place for the family to eat fresh produce. Later on, she brings a guest by the house to check out everything that is going on and briefly stops by the watermill project and conjectures as to whether or not the device will create enough energy for her to turn on a kettle for some tea.
Here is a short clip that will give you a taste for some of the events this week.
ECO BIZ: TERRAPASS
Professor Karl Ulrich at the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton’s Business School has created a business that allows car drivers and plane riders a way to cost-effectively offset the emissions from their travels. For as little as $50 each month, you can remove as much pollution from the air as your car creates, sometimes even more than you create. This innovative approach allows for each person to make a small contribution to the health of the planet and allows for a multiplication of those contributions to create a big change.

ECO-DOCUMENTARY: BLUE VINYL
Judith Helfand makes a humorous and quirky narrator in this documentary that explores some of the dangers of the plastic PVC industry in America, including the famous vinyl record collections that many people still treasure. Judith creates an interesting aesthetic in this documentary as she makes herself appear to be like an athlete training for the Olympics as she reads notecards about the dangers of plastics and the companies who make them.
