Weekly Theme on THE GREEN: WEAR #3

ECOIST: Amber Valleta
Amber Valletta reinforces a sorely lacking quality in american civic life, namely, the need to raise your voice and “fight for the betterment of our world”. She mentions being a kid, and observing how her mother fought against nuclear power. If only more people had this type of example in their life, perhaps there would be less ignorance of real problems facing America and the globe at large. One can think of environmental problems as similar to health care issues like cancer. If you ignore a cancerous tumor, you will have a low chance of living a full life span. Environmental “health care” problems are similar to problems like cancer in the regard that ignoring them increases the likely hood of a shortened life span. However, everyone on the planet stands to suffer as a result of environmental negligence, so lets raise our voices and make some positive changes.
In the video above, Amber mentions “Oceana” [www.oceana.org], a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving and returning the ocean habitat to it’s previous levels of abundance; i.e. before human resource collection pillaged the ocean’s resources to the point of endangerment. ECO BIZ: Timberland
Solar Panels Power Timberland’s California Distribution CenterThis week’s ECO BIZ focus is on Timberland, which is still the iconic handyman’s choice. This company is much larger than one might expect, but as you will see, that did not stop them from changing the way they do business. The video of this show gives you a perspective on how the CEO of the company, Jeffrey Swartz, made some major sustainability changes to the manufacturing process so that Timberland could be an ethically responsible company.
