Spotlight on Meryl Streep

Thursday February 4 starting at 8pm

Sundance Channel salutes the award-winning actress with a triple feature drawn from her recent, delightfully diverse body of work. Streep shows off her fine pipes as a cheerful country singer in Robert Altman’s backstage comedy A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION, which follows the final broadcast of a regional live radio variety program modeled after Garrison Keillor’s long-running program. Streep earned her 13th Oscar nomination for her performance as a Manhattan writer drawn into the world of by a manic, toothless Florida orchid thief in ADAPTATION, a meta-fictional tale of creative insecurity, love and identity from director Spike Jonze and writer Charlie Kaufman. The Spotlight closes out with John Walter’s documentary THEATER OF WAR, which offers a fascinating glimpse of Streep at work, rehearsing for the title role in the 2006 revival of Bertolt Brecht’s play “Mother Courage and Her Children.”
