BIO

Annie and Lachlan Stewart met at Edinburgh College of Art in the late 70’s. Annie started in retail selling silk tartan ties woven in her own patterns, which were sold at Harrods. Lachlan worked as an architect for many years, renovating two prior homes for the family before they decided to move back to Scotland. They found the rundown Ballone Castle, a 16th century tower house, and spent four years renovating it for them and their family. The name Anta, which is a term denoting a type of pilaster, appealed to them as it can be pronounced the same in multiple languages. Anta has grown since its founding in 1985 from a small design store with just the two of them to a staff of over 30, split between the headquarters in Tain and a store in Edinburgh.
