I could stare at fashion photography all day long; it’s a fantasy that is so easy to get lost in. But fashion illustration, which I hope is making a comeback, is a way to see fashion through someone else’s eyes. Danny Roberts, fashion illustrator and blogger, has been a friend of FFF since the beginning, and he’s back to share his favorite looks from New York Fashion Week.
Roberts’s blog is Igor + André, where he shares his illustrations with other fashion enthusiasts. Check out his newest illustrations here, and check back all week to hear why they’re his favorites.
Brenna Ehrlich and Andrea Bartz poke fun at hipsterdom in the blog Stuff Hipsters Hate
One Saturday night a few weeks ago, I escaped the hubbub of New York Fashion Week for a very different scene — a party in Williamsburg celebrating the blog Stuff Hipsters Hate and its authors, my friends Andrea Bartz and Brenna Ehrlich, who just landed “a f—ing book deal.” Andi told me that the book will be an anthropological look at hipsterdom, so I was curious …

Proenza Schouler fall 2010 collection
New York Fashion Week has come to an end, but now what? What can we take away from all of the shows, and, more important, what trends should we pay attention to?
I think belts are really important to pay attention to. I’m sure that sounds weird, but they explain how the proportions will be for the season. This fall the belts will stay up at the waist, and the tradition of belting the outside of your coats and cardigans will continue. There was a time when designers were telling us to wear three belts at a time, then two belts, then one really huge one. Now it seems we are sticking to a normal width of belt (if not skinnier) and keeping it up high to accentuate the waist and elongate the legs. Here are some guidelines to pulling this look off without a hitch.

New York Fashion Week has come to an end, but now what? What can we take away from all of the shows, and, more important, what trends should we pay attention to?
Maybe PETA has given up on New York, or maybe it was too consumed with Johnny Weir, but for some reason its members weren’t at the tents chucking blood, and I was shocked. It seemed like every single collection was dripping with fur, and lots of it. I will admit I love fur. Living in New York for the past seven years, I learned quickly that when it is 20 degrees outside, fur helps shield you from the cold. But there are tons of faux-fur options, and maybe after this season there will be a lot more, so I really encourage you to source faux fur whenever possible. I found mine at H&M; QVC also carries a wide variety.

New York Fashion Week has come to an end, but now what? What can we take away from all of the shows, and, more important, what trends should we pay attention to?
One of the biggest trends this season was a return to schoolgirl styling. I say schoolgirl styling because of the knee-high socks and short skirts, the mix of prep-school plaid vests and blazers. Nothing new was created — same coats, pants, vests, etc. Everything was just styled in a youthful way. Are you going to go to work in a short skirt and plaid blazer? Probably not, but this trend will trickle down to your wardrobe whether you notice it or not. Let me explain.
