Who are you wearing? I have on a Ralph Lauren Polo shirt and J.Crew shorts. The sweatshirt is by Opening Ceremony, and I am wearing Gucci sunglasses. I am carrying a vintage LL Bean tote and have on Sebago Topsiders.
What were you thinking? Costa Rica is colorful. So I, too, wore color.

You want the truth? I wasn’t in Milan. I was at the shows in London (I have a trove of overpriced junk I bought at Portobello Road to prove it), and I’m leaving for Paris on Thursday (to buy more useless items, at the Clignancourt market, I hope), but I came home in between. So does this mean I can’t review the Milan shows?
No! Who says I can’t just look them up on style.com? (In truth, sometimes I do this even when I’ve been at a show, since I frequently pass that time in a dreamlike state from which only the thunderous applause at the end of the show awakens me.)

Growing up in a family of stylish Italian women, I learned early on the importance of fare la bella figura, or cutting a fine figure. The power of neutrals, the magic of good tailoring, appreciation for a fine leather bag — all are style secrets that make Italian women some of the best-dressed in the world. This week, the Italian obsession with fare la bella figura is on display during Milano Moda Donna, also known as Milan Fashion Week. Since my travels have taken me to Italy on a family visit, I couldn’t resist taking a peek.
