Re_cuerda stages an urban intervention in Chile

09/04/09 — 8 comments

In the gritty urban landscape of Valparaiso, Chile, sits a small living room straight out of the 1960s. The armchairs are candy apple red, to match the retro red carpet, red checkered tablecloths and cheerful red balloons. Scattered around this living room is… stuff. Utilizing non-traditional colors and incorporating contemporary designs, Pitti worked to decontextualize the material. The result was Design for Valparaiso, a quirky, unique label that has earned Pitti a spot in the ranks of prominent Chilean designers. Her store, which I stumbled upon during a walk through the hills of Valparaiso, has multiple uses including as workshop, office and exhibition space.
