(L) Aya Kanai with Style Rookie blogger (R) Tavi Gevinson
I have been waiting to tell you all about this for ages!!! During New York Fashion Week, I styled a shoot for Teen Vogue. Our subject on this day was Style Rookie blogger Tavi Gevinson, to be featured wearing pieces from the Rodarte for Target collection, of which she is the muse.
As someone who has been following her blog for about a year, I was enthusiastic about working with Miss Tavi, and she certainly did live up to the clever, precocious, lovable, and fun online persona she has created. She is precisely what you read on her blog, a 13-year-old with a razor-sharp intelligence and an eye for avant-garde fashion. It is nice to meet a girl “of the moment” who truly has something to say.
Photographer Abbey Drucker at the Teen Vogue Tavi shoot
It was an amazing shoot, photographer Abbey Drucker went above and beyond to get the shot at the Tavern on the Green in Manhattan. Here she is, a speck in the middle of the flowers, shooting Tavi. I was supposed to be at shows, but it was well worth it to take a day off from Fashion Week to work with this team.
Also pictured here are the accessories I brought to the shoot. Of course we were featuring the clothing of Rodarte for Target, but I wanted to have great accessories that complemented the looks and Tavi’s personal style. Headbands were a must! — in addition to fun belts, shoes, and jewelry.
The shoot and accompanying story are now out in the December/January issue of Teen Vogue.
