About four years ago I was introduced to Corinne Grassini’s collection, Society for Rational Dress. At the time, I was the fashion director of NYLON, and I remember being shocked that her line was from Los Angeles. I used to always associate LA with bedazzled denim and tube dresses.

I am so impressed by Corinne’s thoughtful aesthetic, and admire how she mixes hard and soft materials (silks with leather, chiffon with hardware) to make clothes that are seductive and real. Society for Rational Dress has an element of the fantastic and surreal; some pieces are quite conceptual, but she balances this with garments for people to wear everyday. She sticks to her vision, and in a trend-eat-trend world, that is something to congratulate.

In her downtown L.A. studio and showroom, she does private appointments in a space she has carefully created to represent her world. Every table, chair, and treatment is a reflection of Corinne and it is well worth the trip.
