Tranoï trade show
Tranoï isn’t your average trade show, they tell you. It is “an artistic platform for designers as we organize fashion shows, artistic installations, exhibitions, and all sorts of events which arouse the interest and desires inherent to fashion.” It is a place to “gather, combine differences, share artistic and commercial experiences, innovate, surprise, and conjugate ideas and ideals.” It’s a “state of mind.”
It still looked like a trade show to me, though, albeit a really big, really cool one, with catered continental breakfast in the morning and a Grey Goose and Veuve Clicquot–sponsored happy hour in the afternoon. Plus, my press bag came with an awesome burnished-silver key necklace that is about to become my next go-to accessory.
This season’s Tranoï show was held October 2 through 5, to coincide with Fashion Week. A total of 313 showrooms and designers exhibited their latest collections in three Paris locations: the Carrousel du Louvre, the Palais de la Bourse, and Montaigne. There was a shuttle to transport registrants from place to place, and a concierge to provide restaurant and bar recommendations.

Their suggestions were delightfully offbeat and of-the-moment, so I thought I’d share them. To eat: Derrière, which aims to replicate the home dining experience; Nomiya, a new culinary art concept in a cube on the roof of the Palais de Tokyo; Dans le Noir, the worldwide pitch-black, no-menu dining experience; and Aux Troubadours, like Medieval Times with a Parisian touch. To drink: Le Salon du Panthéon, Le Très Particulier, l’Hôtel, and Curio Parlor Club. Not your standard recommendations — not your average trade show.
