In Milan, the look was sophisticated, polished, and refined. Here in Paris, the style is a little more … undone. Vintage blazers. Leather, regardless of age. Red lips on a bare face. Unwashed hair tied up into a messy bun. The ubiquitous Marlboro. It’s effortlessly cool as hell.
Fashion-show attendees also seem a lot more willing to break boundaries and experiment with new looks. Take, for example, these folks:
Native American headpieces at the Manish Arora show at cabaret club Crazy Horse.
New “teen around town” Charles Guislain in a Dracula-esque cape at the Manish Arora show.
Fishnets with a twist at the Bruno Pieters show at the Musée de l’Homme.
Rocking the dress-over-jeans look at the Hiroko Koshino show at the Carrousel du Louvre.
This boy explained to me how he made his vest from old badminton birdies at the Lutz show at Garage Turenne.
Diane Pernet
And, of course, there was the inimitable Diane Pernet, with her trademark sky-high hair and black lace mantilla, at the Manish Arora show. The latest project of this iconic former fashion designer and editor is “A Shaded View on Fashion Film,” Paris’s first annual film festival dedicated to fashion, style, and beauty. The festival kicked off September 25–27 at the Palais de Tokyo, and the award ceremony, featuring special guest Rick Owens, will take place October 8 at the Centre Pompidou. I’m sure the after-party will be packed with fellow daring fashionistas.
