Milan: off the runway and to the street

For me, it’s as much fun to see what people are wearing off the runway as on it. That’s especially true in Milan, where it’s nearly impossible to tell a Fashion Week import from your standard well-dressed Italian woman. Here are some recurring trends that popped up throughout the week.

The “Prince.” The pop star’s iconic ’do made an appearance on both men and women.

Funky eyewear, and the confidence to work it. Love her!

Grunge is back, in the form of ripped light denim jeans and plaid flannel.

Printed leggings, but only when done right.

Purple — no surprise there. The color of the season is still going strong.

And then, of course, there are some things that never go out of style.

A classic black dress, particularly when paired with flats and a cardi.

A bright coat with a fun print.

Subtle animal prints.

A perfect-fit blazer and jeans.

Eco-friendly transportation. Milan recently instituted a free bike-swap program in the city center, and now they’re as ubiquitous as Vespas. Saving the earth = always in style!
