I have always had a fascination with Canadians.
When I graduated from college, I drove across central Canada with an artist collective called the bookmobile project. We had a touring exhibition of artist books, magazines, and independent publications that we displayed in the back of our 1969 Airstream trailer. But that’s a story for another time.
Jeremy Laing’s spring/summer 2010 collection
Since then, I have loved Canada; it has so much beauty, and many of the coolest creative people I know. Plus, it flies somewhat under the radar. I think that’s what I like best about it.
Canadian fashion designer Jeremy Laing’s spring/summer 2010 collection was definitely not under the radar. I have been following this Canadian’s work for many seasons and have always enjoyed his perspective on womenswear. This collection did not disappoint and was certainly his best yet.
Jeremy Laing’s spring/summer 2010 collection
As a stylist, I am always on the lookout for designers who have a strong perspective but also see beauty in womanhood — the looks in Jeremy’s collection this season did precisely that. He experimented with draping, shape, and prints but managed to keep the collection consistent. It gave me that feeling of calm — it was like a conversation with a good friend where you explore a topic from every perspective and get to the bottom of things. Jeremy stood his ground creatively but also made pretty and beautiful clothes. Often you find that designers will swing too far one way or another, but this collection felt perfectly balanced. Oh, Canada, you have done it again.
