Bhutanese filmmaker and lama Khyentse Norbu (THE CUP) serves up a wry mix of steamy noir-thriller and anti-materialist Buddhist parable. A minor government official attempts to make his way from tiny, landlocked Bhutan to America, land of excitement, hip-hop and luxury. On his journey he encounters a traveling monk who relates a cautionary tale of an apprentice magician, a bitter old man and the elderly man’s sultry wife. Notable as the first dramatic film shot against the breathtaking natural beauty of Bhutan’s fabled mountains and valleys.
