Mike Leigh’s award-winning film is a touching comic examination of family dynamics and identity, centering on Cynthia (Brenda Blethyn), a middle-aged factory worker who is contacted by a daughter (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) she gave up for adoption three decades earlier. Cynthia is also troubled by problematic relationships with another daughter (Claire Rushbrook), her kid brother (Timothy Spall) and a snobby sister-in-law (Phyllis Logan).
