Red Riding: In The Year Of Our Lord 1974
This immersive and uncompromising trilogy of interlocked noirs set in England’s Yorkshire received among of the best critical notices of 2009. Creating a gripping, near-operatic portrait of greed, corruption and brutality, screenwriter Tony Grisoni adapts David Peace’s series of novels set during the ’70s and ’80s, when the Yorkshire Ripper was terrorizing the region. The opening film, grittily directed by Julian Jarrold (BECOMING JANE), follows a reporter (Andrew Garfield) who becomes emotionally involved in the investigation of a serial killer.
