No stranger to risky roles, French cinema icon Isabelle Huppert plays one of her most transgressive characters in Christophe Honoré’s adaptation of a novel by writer-philosopher Georges Bataille. Hélène (Huppert) is the mother of Pierre (Louis Garrel), a troubled teenager who has been living away from home. When he visits her at the family’s summer home, Pierre learns how Hélène’s has dedicated her life to the pursuit of carnal experimentation. Soon, she wants to introduce her son to her friends and to the darker realms of pleasure.
