Brazil’s Bruno Barreto (FOUR DAYS IN SEPTEMBER; DONA FLOR AND HER TWO HUSBANDS) presents a dramatized account illuminating the life circumstances of the slum dweller responsible for a notorious botched robbery and bus hijacking that paralyzed Rio de Janeiro in June, 2000 (a story previously told in the documentary Bus 174). Barreto focuses on two boys named Sandro – one snatched from his mother as payment for a narcotics debt; the other emotionally wounded by his mother’s untimely murder – as they bond on Rio’s streets and hustle to survive.
