La Belle Personne

French filmmaker Christophe Honoré, whose insight into the many manifestations of modern urban romance earned him critical acclaim with Dans Paris and Love Songs, returns to this eternal theme with a loose contemporary adaptation of the literary classic La Princesse de Clèves. Transporting Madame de Lafayette’s 1678 novel of forbidden passion from a royal court to a contemporary high school, Honoré follows a young and dashing instructor of Italian (Louis Garrel), whose seductive eyes fall on an enigmatic and sullen new student (Léa Seydoux).
