Dorm
Based in part on his own memories of his youth at a boarding school, Thai filmmaker Songyos Sugmakanan’s first solo feature as director is a supernatural coming-of-age saga. Bullied and lonely, 13-year-old Ton (Chalee Trairat), a recent transfer student at a repressive boarding school with a dark past, forms a bond with a long-time student (Sirachuch Chienthaworn) as lonely as Ton. Favorably compared by critics to Stand By Me, and praised for Chalee Trairat’s sensitive performance, DORM won the Crystal Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.
