Disengagement
Juliette Binoche stars in filmmaker Amos Gitai’s English-language family drama set against the 2005 exodus of Israeli settlers from the Gaza Strip. Learning that her deceased French father left most of his fortune to a daughter she gave up at birth 20 years earlier, Ana (Binoche) travels to Israel with her half-brother (Liron Levo) to see her estranged child (Dana Ivgy), now a teacher on a Gaza kibbutz. In Gitai’s very human story about the Middle East, many are victims, heroes are few and even the irreconcilable can find common ground.
