Filmmaker Eric Rohmer was approaching 80 when, with this film, he concluded his quartet of “TALES OF THE FOUR SEASONS,” yet another wry and civilized examination of the human comedy of courtship and manners. In this case, a 45-year-old widowed vintner (Beatrice Romand) unintentionally inspires two friends into independent acts of matchmaking. With coincidence and confusion leading to events suggesting a classic farce, Rohmer’s masterful creation tells a story which the New York Times hailed as “a rich, emotionally satisfying experience.”
