Director Spike Jonze and writer Charlie Kaufman, who memorably melded screwball comedy and existentialist philosophy in BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, return with a more audacious foray into pop metafiction. Nicholas Cage plays Kaufman (and his fictitious hack-writer twin) as he struggles to bring to the screen writer Susan Orlean’s non-fiction book “The Orchard Thief”. As desperation turns to cliché, Kaufman’s life and screenplay begin to spin out of control. With Oscar®-winning Best Supporting Actor Chris Cooper as the book’s titular orchid obsessive.
