The Last Jews of Libya

Vivienne Roumani-Denn, Director
At the end of World War II, 36,000 Jews lived in Libya. Today, there are none. Filmmaker Vivienne Roumani-Denn tells how European colonialism, Italian fascism and the rise of Arab nationalism contributed to the disappearance of Libya's once vibrant Sephardic Jewish community. Diaries and letters penned by the filmmaker's mother -- whose family lived in Benghazi for generations -- chronicle the rapid and traumatic changes she witnessed as her friends and family were forced to leave. Isabella Rossellini narrates.
