Joan Didion and husband John Gregory Dunne penned this faithful adaptation of Didion's acclaimed 1970 novel about a sensitive California woman's struggle to find her place in a venal and crass America. Golden Globe-nominee Tuesday Weld plays Maria Wyeth, a former model and actress whose Hollywood career has faded and whose marriage to an egotistical and trendy filmmaker (Adam Roarke) is falling apart. Only her friendship with a gay film producer (Anthony Perkins) seems to offer salvation. Frank Perry (THE SWIMMER; MOMMY DEAREST) directs.
