Martin Scorsese gives an updated spin to a 1962 noir thriller, with Nick Nolte and Robert De Niro in roles originated by Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum. Ex-con Max Cady (De Niro) is a violent, tattooed commando focused on settling the score with Sam Bowden (Nolte), the man who failed to defend him from a jail sentence. And if getting satisfaction involves terrorizing Bowden's wife (Jessica Lange) and daughter (Juliette Lewis), so much the better. Notably, Scorsese adapted Bernard Herrmann's highly effective score from the earlier film.
