Isabelle Huppert stars in this French-Russian co-production, playing an enigmatic woman whose quiet, chilly demeanor conceals a dangerous and possibly violent passion. Set in 1920s Petrograd, L'INONDATION tells the story of a childless couple, Sofia (Huppert) and Trofim (Boris Nevzorov), who adopt Granka (Masha Lipkina), a 13-year-old orphan girl. Alas, as Granka grows older, Sofia realizes she is raising a rival for Trofims affections. Igor Minayev directs this adaptation of a short story by banned Soviet writer Yevgeny Zamyatin.
