Jean-Marc Vallée, Director
In one of the most lauded Canadian films of recent years, filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée presents a wry, innovative and closely observed tale of a teen's coming of age in '70s Montreal. Zachary (played at different ages by Émile Vallée and Marc-André Grondin) is one of five boys in an eccentric French-Canadian Catholic household. Family life is often difficult his mother is convinced Zac has supernatural healing powers and Zac, a fan of David Bowie's "Space Oddity," is conflicted about his sexuality, much to the concern of his stern father.
