Suburbia, class and reality TV are among the targets served up for satirical laughs in Australia's most successful comedy series. Kath (Jane Turner), a fortysomething empty nester, and her spoiled daughter Kim (Gina Riley) are followed by reality-TV cameras during their day-to-day lives in the Melbourne suburb of Fountain Lakes.
The news that Brett's wealthy mother is seriously ill prompts Brett (Peter Rowsthorn) and Epponnee-Raelene to travel to Queensland's Gold Coast and be at her bedside. At home, Kim (Gina Riley) deals with the family crisis by dreaming about the penthouse by the sea that she is sure she and Brett will soon own. Meanwhile, Kel (Glenn Robbins) attends a "meat retreat" butcher's conference and Kath (Jane Turner) tries to revive her circle of girlfriends, whom she has slighted since her wedding. Geoffrey Rush appears in a small supporting role.
