Writer-performer Josh Kornbluth presents his celebrated autobiographical monologue in this concert film by Doug Pray (SCRATCH; HYPE!). The son of dedicated American Communists, Kornbluth recalls that he was raised with the expectation that he would lead the coming revolution. "Just so you understand the pressure...," he adds in an aside. Witty and engaging, Kornbluth holds center stage for 90 minutes in this funny and heartfelt performance, which the San Francisco Chronicle found "reminiscent of Spalding Gray's SWIMMING TO CAMBODIA."

Directed by acclaimed documentary filmmaker Doug Pray (SCRATCH, HYPE), RED DIAPER BABY is monologist Josh Kornbluth’s hilarious, vivid account of his childhood and youth as a "red diaper baby," as the children of American Communists were known. Kornbluth’s parents divorced when he was a baby and his time was split between his father, Paul, a gregarious eccentric whose anti-authoritarianism clashed with his teaching career; and his mother, known as "Bunny," a librarian and would-be writer. Raised on opposite sides of Manhattan, Kornbluth was grounded in Marxist-Leninist philosophy – which made for an idiosyncratic journey through public school, parochial school and, eventually, sexual awakening.

Sundance Channel presents the U.S. television premiere of RED DIAPER BABY, Josh Kornbluth’s comedic concert film about growing up with Communist parents on May 1st at 9:00PM, and will repeat throughout the month. CCAP/Stereo/Letterbox
