Park City, UT — Sundance Institute this evening announced the Jury, Audience, NEXT and other special awards of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival at the feature film Awards Ceremony, hosted by Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Park City, Utah. John Cooper, Director of the Sundance Film Festival, said, “The films at our Festival this year truly reflect the unbridled passion, immense talent and diverse stories coming from the independent filmmaking community. I am confident that the awards presented this evening will fuel those films with special promise and that audiences will continue to champion the films they have discovered here.”

The 2013 Sundance Film Festival may be building towards its grand finale, but there’s still one big premiere left to go – at least for anyone who carries around an iProduct. jOBS 6:15P Eccles Theatre
A little more than a year after the anniversary of Steve Jobs’ death, Ashton Kutcher embodies the charismatic leader and co-founder of Apple Computer in Joshua Michael Stern’s biopic. The true story of one of the greatest entrepreneurs in American history, jOBS chronicles the defining 30 years of Steve Jobs’ life as he built Apple into the largest technology company in the world.

Montana may hold the official title of “Big Sky Country”, but New Mexico and California are no slouches when it comes to scenery that’ll give you a whole new perspective on this blue marble of ours. Today we’ve got films that make these settings a character of their own. And speaking of perspectives on our little planet, we’ve also got a documentary that may just change the way you think about nuclear power. All that and more in today’s featured festival films.

This past Sunday, an eager crowd of critics and fans devoted a full day — from 9 till 5 — at Park City’s classic Egyptian Theater to watching Jane Campion’s TOP OF THE LAKE in its entirety. The screening of the seven-part series was a Sundance Film Festival first and despite the serious time commitment, audiences were left thrilled by the event.

Sundance Institute this evening announced the jury prizes and honorable mentions in short filmmaking at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. The awards were presented at a ceremony in Park City, Utah.

This year’s Short Film program is comprised of 65 short films selected from a record 8,102 submissions.
The Short Film jurors are: Mike Farah, President of Production for Funny or Die; Don Hertzfeldt, Academy Award® nominated American independent filmmaker; and Magali Simard, short film programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival.

A.C.O.D. may sound like a mental disorder, but you’ll only wish it was after seeing Stu Zicherman’s film about an adult caught in the crossfire of his parents’ divorce. The premieres keep rolling on day 7!

A.C.O.D. 6:30P Eccles Theatre
Carter is a well-adjusted Adult Child of Divorce. So he thinks. When he discovers he was part of a divorce study as a child, it wreaks havoc on his family and forces him to face his chaotic past. Adam Scott’s increasingly befuddled everyman is flanked by vivacious comic performances from Catherine O’Hara and Amy Poehler as his stubborn mom and sassy stepmom, respectively.

Finally, the weather’s about to heat up here at Sundance – and we think we know why. How about Amanda Seyfried making her much-anticipated debut as Linda Lovelace? That and more make for one hot day in chilly Park City!

LOVELACE 9:45P Eccles Theatre
DEEP THROAT, the first pornographic feature film to be a mainstream success, was an international sensation in 1972 and made its star, Linda Lovelace, a media darling. Years later the “poster girl for the sexual revolution” revealed a darker side to her story. Amanda Seyfried sizzles in the starring role; Peter Sarsgaard plays charismatic hustler Chuck Taylor, who launches Lovelace’s career.

Today, we’ve got king of indie romance Richard Linklater’s latest entry in probably the longest-running rom-com series in history, the inside story on Julian Assange, and, well, Shia Lebouf. We hear he’s got some fans. All that and more below.

THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN 6:30P Eccles Theatre
Traveling abroad, Charlie Countryman falls for Gabi, a Romanian beauty whose unreachable heart has its origins in Nigel, her violent, charismatic ex. As the darkness of Gabi’s past increasingly envelops him, Charlie resolves to win her heart, or die trying. Shia Lebouf and Evan Rachel Wood headline the cast.

It’s quickly appearing on critics’ must-see lists — and it hasn’t even premiered yet. TOP OF THE LAKE, the seven-part Sundance Channel original series from Oscar-winning director Jane Campion, is screening in its entirety today at Park City’s Egyptian Theater — the first television series to ever do so, a fact that in itself is getting critics talking.
