Kill the descendants of the Nazis in retribution??? Posted on Aug 23 2008 at 1:27pm by I am an American citizen now but I was born in Budapest during the Holocaust and lost most of my family in the last months of the war when the Hungarian Nazis, cooperating with the Germans, tried to exterminate as many Jews as possible, while they still could.
I was brought up in Catholic schools and didn't even find out about my Jewish family until I was 15.
I can understand the filmmakers' repugnance towards the commercialized memorials to the Holocaust, but his response at the end of the film is equally outrageous to me. The survivors of the era that caused the Holocaust are few, and very old. Their children and grandchildren did not cause the Holocaust to happen. In fact, the FACTS were hidden from all of us, on both sides - the Jews because they were still traumatized and afraid and the perpetrators because they were ashamed to admit what they had done. Still, their children were brainwashed into continuing this ethnic hatred, which is captured very well in the film.
But I would like to ask Mark, how does he propose to stop the centuries and even millenia of hatred between Jews and non-Jews if he also joins the "revengers" saying that the appropriate Holocaust memorial would be to take the Germans and their allies and put them into the gas chambers and kill them all?
I guess he is too young to understand the Woodstock nation!
