| I lived in several small towns during my teaching career, and I can tell you those places were pathetic! If a person is a transplant, like I was, then you are treated with suspicion from the beginning. These small town, small minded people are suspicious of anyone that has not grown up within their community. Adults have clicks, just like the kids. I was mobbed and ostracized from the beginning, since I advocated the "evils" of evolution and noncompetitive tolerance and understanding of all people to students that were brainwashed by the small town culture into believing their little town is the world and everything in it should follow "Jesus". Small town people have a difficult time grasping the idea of cooperation in a world community nor in ideas that go beyond the fundamentalist views of Christianity. I'll tell you these small town people don't have a clue about what is happening outside of a twenty mile radius from their insignificant little town. Their pathetic little lives revolves around completive sports, like basketball, and gossiping about people they can never understand. Believe me, if you want to visit hell, while still being alive, move to a small town. |
