As a person struggling with bipolar disorder, I thank you for producing a film that captures the impact of bipolar disorder on the person living with it and on the people who care about him. While watching the film, I deeply empathized with Sam and recognized in myself aspects of Sam and his struggles that will be helpful to me in my recovery or transition into a new life worth living.

Since 2000, the year of my first and only acute manic episode, I've lost my marriage, a successful career that included a faculty appointment at an Ivey League school, many relationships with friends and family and any sense of where my life is going or how i got here. It feels like that was a different person living my old life. You really captured how Sam experienced this feeling of being a different person from his earlier life, the sense of having lost what was a desirable life and how difficult it is facing an uncertain, insecure future.

While I feel fortunate not to suffer from the acute mania and psychotic features that affect Sam, the devastating effects of bipolar disorder are much the same for me and friends living with this mental illness.

I have recommended your film to family and friends.

Thanks again,
