Hard-hitting, emotional and thought provoking documentary that walks the fine line between a fimamker's subject and friend. This film pointedly captures the highs and lows of bi-polar behavior not only in the moment but as they occur over several years. The allegorical shot of Sam standing half-naked in Central Parl Lake looking at the Manhattan Skyline is a classic picture exhibiting the mecurical nature of this mental illness. This is a must see for all consumers, family members and professionals involved in mental health issues.

This is really a fascinating film. I was first drawn in by the stunning cinematography in and around "the cage," but it was the story of Sam's slide into bipolar disease and the relationship between Sam and the filmaker, Ben, that kept me glued to the film. It is a fascinating picture of the transformation of a man which we rarely get to see. It also raises thoughtful questions about the relationship of the filmmaker to the subject, especially when that subject becomes a friend. We all need to see more ot these kinds of films.
