Caught this terrific, sensitive movie last night. Although my family has its own history with bipolar disorder, Director Ben Selkow was able to tap into a well of sympathy for Sam that I didn't think I had. He did so with a clear-eyed, unsentimental narrative that also allowed me to identify with the other people in the film who are affected by this bright, articulate man's individual tragedy.
There are spots where the images and cinematography are fabulous. This isn't the sort of thing I'm usually tuned into, but the opening shot of The Cage has amazing texture and light, making me keep my eye open for more throughout the film. |
