OK, so I heard the loud ad tonight about this series. Huge ad. Mind you, I have read about Jay in our local Atlanta liberal rag "The Creative Loafing" about a year ago maybe, and I still find "Christians" regardless of their flavor to be trite and condescending.

So you wear jeans and a t-shirt. So you have tattoo's. So you were the son of a man who most find to be a liar and a zealot. This doesn't really matter, you got your own TV show. Never mind that the "Masquerade" in Atlanta is a 3 story dance club with the floors properly labeled "Heaven, Hell and Purgatory" that caters to "sinful" people the other what, 165 hours a week?

Anyway. I am Pagan. I am an ex-christian. I do not believe that the teachings of the great jewish, mortal man Jesus were ever meant to be followed the way they have been since his untimely death. I do not believe in the Bible as the "Infallible" word of god. I know, from fact that is indisputable, that the Bible is flawed. Here are the facts as scholars and theologist know them today.

The original text of the "New Testament" do not exist. We only have records from the "Church" dated to circa 400 C.E. The task of keeping copies of said records was delegated to scribes. Scribes in 400 C.E. were not educated, just like the other 85% of society. Proof that some passages of the Bible are loosely interpreted due to the fact that there are all the different versions of the same stories presented in the text from different churches/monasteries and archives for over 2000 years now. Many of these "differences" came from scribbles on the side of the parchment, or marking out one word and replacing it with another that has a different definition.

So tell me. How do you justify preaching something that you do not know is real? A way of "knowing" other than the "feeling" you get in your gut just like any non-christian does when they know something is not true?

I plan to watch this show. If for no other reason than to debunk this "Christianization" of the world. I must warn you, I do not get insulted or offended easy from the "God Fearing" side. To me you are all just sheep to senseless slaughter, with an easy excuse of a higher being to get away with not living your life awake and full of love for all life in this Universe.

    Sincerely,

    Atlanta Pagan

Proof is a strong word, and couldn't we all ask for that when talking to someone of different persuasion...

"To me you are all just sheep to senseless slaughter, with an easy excuse of a higher being to get away with not living your life awake and full of love for all life in this Universe."

What is your excuse for your lack of love? Pardon the harsh nature of these questions, but it seems that you feel threatened in some way or have been wronged by some of the people that put themselves in the group toward which you show so much hostility. Can you explain your agenda and why you find it important to push your belief - when that belief is essentially that the Christian belief should be debunked? I'd just like clarification on the inconsistancy. And "slaugter?"

No one is perfect. There are people with whom I share the Christian label who kill abortion doctors, or who spread gossip and slander. There are pastors who molest children. We all know this. Stuff like that is so far from the teachings of Christianity - and any moral ideal. I respect and understand your disbelief, but I'm always curious to hear the reasons behind adamant work against belief in God, especially when the mission-like characteristic of anti-faith is almost a religion in itself.

      Mark,

As a gay man I've experienced one of the harshest hands "Christians" can deal to any human or group. After being beaten, harrassed, and tormented for years in my small Southern town by "Christians", I too rejected any idea of God and Christianity. For years, I lived and breathed to "debunk" Christianity and spent an awful lot of time studying and researching how to "disprove" it. The paradox is that you can't disprove something that can't be proven to begin with and to spend one's life doing it prevents one from living one's own life. I should know because I spent years doing it.

Several years ago I entered treatment for addiction after trying every way under the sun to stop. Nothing worked except a 12 step program. I came to believe in a power greater than myself (but not Jesus). It wasn't until I discovered that Jesus loved me without condition that I understood for myself how real He was and is to me. The great thing is I don't have to explain, defend or try to prove it to anyone. God's a big boy and can take care of himself.

I've had the great pleasure of hearing Jay Bakker speak at my church. A church that is openly supportive of gay people and in fact has a gay pastor (in this small Southern town). You may not think much of this, but it takes a lot of courage for Jay to continually speak out at our church. He has lost much financially due to this conviction.

I would hope that someone like yourself, who is obviously intelligent, would not judge until you've seen the show. I wish you well and hope for you nothing but great things.

      Blessings,

      James

Um, what I see here is the kettle calling the pot black.

What proof do you have for your fairies and spooks and pagan gods? No more and no less than Jay has for his.
